What is Reflexology

Reflexology was introduced by the Chinese as early as 5000 yrs ago.  It was also used by the Egyptians, we know this because evidence of this type of foot massage has been found in the form of tomb art dating from around 2000 BC.

Reflexology is also called zone therapy because it works on five zones on the length of the feet. The therapist works along these lines with thumbs and fingers using a variety of techniques aiming to ease underlying problems you may have.

Reflexology was first introduced to the UK in the early 1960's.  It has since become a very popular holistic treatment. Reflexology can also be done on the hands.

  • Can help with deeper relaxation
  • Can help improve circulation
  • Can help increase energy levels
  • Can help release endorphins
  • Can help strengthen the immune system
  • Can help remove toxins
  • Can help balance the whole body

A full reflexology treatment will last for approximately one hour but we offer taster sessions of 30 minutes   The therapist will invite you to relax on a couch.  You will remain fully clothed with just your shoes and socks removed. The therapist will cleanse your feet and then use various specialised reflexology techniques adapted to suit your individual needs.

After the treatment, it is advisable to rest or at least just light duties and drink plenty of water over the following few days.

Reflexology is suitable for most people but there are certain conditions where reflexology would not be advisable.   The initial consultation will identify if you are suitable or not.  If you have  diabetes, you will require the permission of your GP.
